Greece received a whooping increase in Indian tourists as per the statistics released by the Greece National Tourist office (GNTO) and Athens International Airport.  Around 38,046 Indian tourists visited Greece during the first nine months as compared to 17,376 during the same period last year. It showed a whopping increase of 119%.

Konstantinos Tsegas, Secretary General, Greek National Tourism Organization he was happy to  see the rising interest of Indians for Greece as a popular holiday destination across the country.

He stated that they wanted to target the captive audience across different age groups by appealing to different category of travellers.

Diverse platform have been leveraged to cater to specific characteristics of the Indian market.

Their strategy is focused around promoting 365-day tourism in Greece and make lesser known destination like Thessaloniki, Xanthi or Kavala popular. These have great geophysical, historical and cultural importance along with Athens.

There has been close collaboration with partners in India for growth in family segments , FITS (first time travellers segment), MICE, destination weddings, honeymoons and films.

In 2016 , Greece National Tourist Office noted 14.6 million arrivals in total and 15.5 million in 2017 . The growth percentage of arrivals from India was 9.7 each year.
