Morning Consult released a new research reflecting Americans’ travel preferences and their views on different travel brands. The data records Americans’ favourite airlines, hotels, and methods of travel, segregated by age.
About 49 per cent of Americans choose Southwest Airlines as their favourite airline. This is followed by American Airlines (47 per cent) and Delta at (46 per cent).
While United had a 46 per cent positive outlook from Americans, it also had the highest unfavourable rating at 23 per cent. While budget airline Spirit had 14 per cent unfavourable rating, American had 16 per cent unfavourable rating.
American travellers consider the cost of tickets and free checked luggage while booking a flight. The next consideration is comfort or legroom. The research shows that American travellers believe that cost and comfort across the airlines have worsened.
Americans are more likely to book a hotel from Marriott or Best Western than an Airbnb. Merely 71 per cent of Americans have heard of Airbnb, while 90 per cent of them have heard of chain brands like Motel 6, Marriott, and Hilton.However, Americans aren’t brand loyal with their hotels as only 24 per cent have a preferred chain.
American Millennials (36 per cent) do favour Airbnb. Only 27 per cent of Gen X and 23 per cent of Boomers would use Airbnb.
Americans love to travel by car, as they find it more fun, efficient, less of a hassle, and cost-efficient compared to flying or taking a train or bus. While Millennials prefer to go abroad, half of Americans’ favour travelling domestically and Hawaii is their top destination.
The Morning Consult research shows that Americans prefer relaxing vacations that are affordable.
