DUSSELDORF, GERMANY – trivago, a leading global hotel metasearch, analyzes its user behavior for travel to 25 different markets in September, October, and November 2018 and , as well as insights into traveler spending and booking patterns.
New York City, US, is the most expensive of the top destinations in the studied markets, with an average clicked price of 252 euros for a room per night. Amsterdam in the Netherlands holds the second-place position of the priciest top locations with an average of 193 euros per night, followed by Sydney, Australia, at 182 euros per night. Dublin, Ireland, and Paris, France, complete the list of the top five priciest popular autumn 2018 destinations with 182 euros and 169 euros on average for a room per night respectively.
Short trips popular in the autumn months
Over half of the 25 top destinations identified are also country capitals. The capital city with the longest average duration of stay in the autumn months is Rio de Janeiro, Brazil, at 4.7 nights, followed by Portuguese capital Lisbon with an average stay duration of 4.3 nights. The top destination where travelers tend to stay the most nights is Sochi, Russia, with an average stay duration of 8 nights, followed by New York City with an average of 5.4 nights of stay. In third place is Cancun, Mexico, where travelers stay 5.2 nights on average. Popular travel destinations with the shortest average stay durations this season include Auckland, New Zealand, (2.6 nights); Dublin, Ireland, (2.9 nights); and Brussels, Belgium (3 nights).
