Minister for Tourism in Kerala Kadakampally Surendran has said that more tourism police personnel will be posted for the safety of tourists.
The minister inaugurated the valedictory of a training programme for the tourism police yesterday in Thiruvananthapuram. The programme was organized by the tourism department in association with the Kerala Institute of Tourism and Travel Studies (KITTS).
The Minister said that more tourism personnel were being posted due to the increase in tourist inflow over the past two years. He added that more women personnel would be made available for ensuring safety of women tourists.
Mr. Surendran said that the personnel should be tourists’ friends and guides, and help them with any information they might need. Besides improving infrastructure in the tourism sector, more facilities would be provided for the tourism police.
The minister said that the government and the department are committed to make sure that tourists can enjoy traveling without facing any trouble.
To ensure that tourists have an excellent experience, ‘green, clean, and safe’ policy would be implemented in tourist destinations. Tourism police would have an important role in ensuring safe destinations. Seventeen destinations had been selected for improvement of infrastructure.
State Police Chief Loknath Behera said that the tourism police would be responsible for providing correct information to people from different countries and cultures and intervene in their problems when brought to their notice.
