The Dubai Multi Commodities Centre (DMCC) and the Dubai Government announced that Dubai was now the home to world’s largest jigsaw puzzle by surface area and has set a new Guinness World Record.

To honour the UAE’s founding father and in celebration of the Year of Zayed 12,000-piece puzzle featured the image of Shaikh Zayed.
 
The puzzle is big enough to be viewed from a distance and is spread across an area of 6,000 square metres.

 
The extraordinary jigsaw puzzle is located within the DMCC’s Uptown District near JLT (Jumeriah Lakes Towers) and will be recycled post completion of the project, adhering to the country’s commitment to sustainability.

Uptown Dubai is a real estate development which was formerly called the Burj 2020District. It consists of more than 10 million square feet of commercial and residential space. The project was expected to create 10,000 new jobs in Dubai.

The DMCC executive chairman Ahmed Bin Sulayem placed one of the pieces of the puzzle.
The previous record for the world’s largest jigsaw puzzle was measuring at 5,428.8 square metres according to the Guinness World Records. In November 2002 the previous title holder was put together at the Kai Tak airport in Hong Kong.


 
Considering the largest jigsaw puzzle in terms of the number of pieces used was at the Phu Tho Stadium in Ho Chi Minh City in Vietnam in September 2011. The puzzle was lotus shaped with six petals and had more than 550,000 pieces.
