MONTREAL - Tourisme Montreal and the Mexico Tourism Board have just signed a memorandum of understanding. This occurred while several representatives from Montreal's business sector were on a trade mission to Mexico City.
"Tourism is a major driver of economic and social development for both Quebec and Mexico. Today, we are confirming our desire to increase bilateral trade and support growth in the tourism industry, for which the outlook is very promising. This agreement is very good news for both organizations!" said Yves Lalumiere, President and CEO of Tourisme Montreal.
In 2017, the number of tourists coming to Montreal from Mexico increased by 50% over 2016, reaching 82,000 in all. Tourisme Montreal expects a 15% gain in 2018, for a total of 95,000 Mexican tourists coming to the city.

"I am very pleased about this agreement," declared Valerie Plante, the Mayor of Montreal. "This initiative bolsters what was already a close working relationship between Montreal and Mexico City, particularly on the economic level. I will reinforce the importance of this relationship when I meet with Miguel Mancera, the Head of Government of Mexico City, during my visit to the Mexican capital today."
Under this agreement, the two tourism bureaus have agreed to collaborate on initiatives to increase tourism in both cities while promoting dialogue between their respective tourism industries. The organizations will also share information - such as performance indicators, statistics, tourist welcome strategies and technology solutions - to improve their respective work methods.
