Tortum Lake and its waterfall which are regarded as the best place for its natural beauty and isolation and the place for Tortum Dam and Hydroelectric Plant that was established in 1960 to produce electricity will be now open for the international tourists. As, Turkey is growing in travel and tourism industry, the government is taking some major initiatives to grow the Turkish tourism at its new height, despite of having terror threats.
Tortum Lake hosts many visitors with its historical and natural beauties in the slow city of Erzurum in the Black Sea region every year. Now this place of archaeological and historical importance will be introduced to international tourism with a project costing TL 9 million ($2.4 million). As, Turkish tourism is booming with the international tourists from China, Russia and UK, this plan will help to grow the tourism revenue of this place.
Erzurum is known for its quietness and chosen as the 11th quietest city in Turkey by Cittaslow International, which aims to perk up the quality of life in towns by slowing down its overall pace, Tortum allures with the Tortum Waterfall and Tortum Lake along with its historical churches, bridges, green plains and forests.
Here the tourists who come to enjoy the unique view of Tortum Lake can find number of places to explore along with the bird watching. It is the home to thousands of bird and plant species, make camps or stay in their caravans near the lake.
Conducting work to boost tourism in the region and benefit from the attention of tourists, the Uzundere Municipality has prepared a project with a fund they received from the Ministry of Environment and the Urbanization General Directorate for the Protection of Natural Assets. The municipality, which will construct many touristic places in and around the peninsula, wants to introduce Tortum Lake to international tourism.
