The Luxembourg government has totally assigned a €60 million budget to expand and develop the opportunity in the tourism sector over the next five years.
The budget has been allocated for the period between 2018 and 2022. The government of Luxembourg aims to maintain the improvements and the developments within the sector and help develop tourism infrastructure.
The tourism industry of Luxembourg accounts for 6.5% of the country’s GDP and provides 20,000 jobs.
The €60-million figure, provided by the economy minister, represents a 30% increase compared with the amount allocated over the previous five-year period. According to the Economy Ministry of Luxembourg, almost 3 million tourists stayed in the Grand-Duchy in 2016.
The State Secretary for the Economy, Francine Closener, said the tourism sector had been “growing steadily” since 2013.
Francine Closener said that while focusing on sustainable development, they extend a quality and diversified tourism that safeguards the natural and architectural heritage and promotes regional development, while adapting to the tourists’ expectations, who vary constantly.
The strategic framework until 2022 has a deep focus on the setting up and promoting tourism infrastructure, with the strengthening the economic weight of the tourism sector. It is providing a legal framework for its economic development through the travel and tourism industry.
