Dream Palm Springs has broken ground in California, Songy Highroads bought land for a Hyatt-branded property and Tavistock Development Company has plans for a performance resort in Florida. Here are the details:
Dream Palm Springs Commences Construction
Developed by Selene International, in partnership with Dream Hotel Group, Dream Palm Springs has officially broken ground. The ceremony for this $100-million development took place this week and featured Mayor Robert Moon as keynote speaker, as well as key members of the Dream team, developer Lauri Kibby and Dream Hotel Group CEO Jay Stein, among others.
Located on the corner of Amado Rd. and Calle Alvarado, adjacent to the convention center, the 169-room hotel pairs executive architect Oswaldo D. Lopez with Hirsch Bender Associates (HBA) for design.
It is expected to open with 30 private residences, multiple experiential dining and nightlife venues and more than 10,000 sq. ft. of flexible meeting space in late 2019.
Songy Highroads, Hyatt Close on Site
A joint venture between affiliates of Atlanta-based developer Songy Highroads LLC and Hyatt Hotels Corp. has completed the acquisition of a site in Downtown Atlanta. Located at the corner of Luckie St. at Latimer St., the site is situated directly across from the Georgia Aquarium and one block from Centennial Olympic Park, which is undergoing an extensive $17-million renovation that is expected to be complete in early 2019. The abandoned, two-story commercial building and public parking lot, which currently occupy two purchased lots, will be demolished.
The site will be developed into a Hyatt Place hotel. Construction drawings, pricing, permitting and financing disciplines are underway, with a construction commencement date to be determined.
“Downtown has always been a vital part of Atlanta’s business community and entertainment scene, but in recent years we’ve seen a renewed sense of interest and excitement for the area from visitors, locals and businesses alike,” said Todd Nocerini, COO of Songy Highroads. “The popularity of tourism makes the Centennial Park District the perfect locale for a new addition to our portfolio.”
Tavistock Plans Florida Resort
Tavistock Development Company is planning a resort and spa at its master-planned Lake Nona community in Orlando, FL. Arquitectonica, a Miami-based architecture firm, is designing the Lake Nona Resort, which is planned to break ground in 2018 with an opening date set for 2020.
Located along the southern shore of Lake Nona and close to the new USTA National Campus—the world’s largest tennis campus with 100 courts—the eight-story Lake Nona Resort will feature 20,000 sq. ft. of meeting space, a major fitness and spa campus, a 120,000-sq.-ft. beach volleyball venue, one the nation’s largest manmade crystal clear lagoons bringing the beach to Central Florida, and 250 custom-designed guestrooms and 80 condominium units.
“With Orlando now approaching 70 million annual visitors, it is a very competitive hotel market with many exceptional properties and operators,” said Tavistock Development Company President Jim Zboril. “Our focus is on sports and performance, and we believe this is the first-of-its-kind performance-driven Resort created from scratch in the United States. With our proximity to the airport, this facility will not only serve the Lake Nona community and our growing Sports and Performance District, but will provide a unique addition to the Central Florida region.”
