Covering both the northern and southern directions the mountain regions of Timau was considered as s strategic spot for space observation according to Lapan.
The launch of the observatory will be encouraging tourism in the area and other developing region as a research and technology centre.
Kupang regent Titu said that Lapan will be establishing the facility to be a natural tourism site that would bring in more tourists. The building will have an advanced telescope of 3.8 meters in diameter which would be the largest in Southeast Asia.
He further mentioned that Lapan was in the beginning stages of developing the facility. The central government was informed by the Kupang regional government to repair the damaged roads as the observatory will be constructed by early next year.
In an area spanning 40 hectares Lapan will be building a science center in the Tilong area in Central Kupang that will be dedicated for research.
