Following Hurricanes Irma and Maria, Royal Caribbean mobilized three of their ships to provide help with supplies and evacuation efforts: Adventure, Majesty, and Empress of the Seas.
Adventure of the Seas departed San Juan, Puerto Rico on September 28 and picked up evacuees and delivered relief supplies in St. Croix on September 29, and St. Thomas on September 30. The ship came in today, October 3, to Fort Lauderdale at maximum capacity with around 3,800 evacuees onboard. Adventure will then return to San Juan on October 6 to be back in time for her next scheduled cruise, which is October 7.
Evacuees boarding outbound ships from the islands are individuals who have been identified and placed on an evacuation list by local government officials. Some include stranded tourists. A smaller number of guests include employees and employees’ friends and families, who are being evacuated as well.
