The latest French air control strikes have triggered the cancellation of several flights.

It had commenced around 5 p.m. British time on Monday and would be continuing until the early hours of Wednesday. The main air traffic controllers’ unions are ceasing work as part of a national strike against the labour reform policies of Emmanuel Macron, the President.

Ryanair has already cancelled more than 220 flights, impacting nearly 40,000 passengers.

These cancellations have been observed all across western Europe and UK airports are especially worse affected. Many links from regions like Manchester, Liverpool, Birmingham, Bristol, Luton, Stansted, etc. have been axed. The airline said in a statement that further flight delays and cancellations are probable.

Its competitor easyJet said that since a great percentage of easyJet flights fly over France it might have an impact on their flights to and from French airports and even those flying over the French airspace.

This strike is also expected to have its impact felt in many public services in France including public transport.

They have suggested that air passengers need to allow a large fraction of time to reach the airport and think of alternative transport options whenever it is possible. British Airways too has grounded its Monday evening departures from Heathrow to Marseille, Paris Orly and Toulouse and also Basel that serves a Swiss city but is in French territory.

Many other cancellations are expected on Tuesday including to the cities in nations like Italy and Spain that generally are known to fly over the airspace of France.
