Melbourne is pleased to welcome Jetstar’s non-stop service to Zhengzhou giving Victorian travellers heightened ability to reach China.
The service is a win for Melbourne, the first time an airline has flown to Australia from Zhengzhou.
Jetstar will service the route on a Boeing 787 aircraft, adding close to 70,000 seats with two flights per week operating on Wednesdays and Sundays. The service will commence on 6 December 2017.
Melbourne Airport Chief of Aviation Simon Gandy said Jetstar’s announcement supports Melbourne’s growth into the Chinese market.
“China is an important destination for Melbourne facilitating business and tourism opportunities for Victorians, and there’s no doubting China’s popularity. China is currently the largest inbound tourism market for Victoria with 570,000 annual visitors,” Mr Gandy said.
“It’s always good to be the first Australian city to service an international route and that’s exactly what Jetstar’s service will do. Zhengzhou is a beaming metropolis on the Yellow River and the capital of east-central China’s Henan province, and we look forward to enabling Australia’s only non-stop connection to the city.
“Melbourne is experiencing unprecedented growth. In July we reached 100 months of consecutive international passenger growth and our city once again has been named the world’s most liveable city for a seventh year in a row.
“We thank Jetstar for launching this service, it’s great to see another Australian carrier participating in the China growth story which will drive international visitation even further from Melbourne.”
