In the year 2016, almost 10 million people arrived in Riviera Maya and Cancun as per the Tourism Secretariat of Quintana Roo.
Travel Agent Central, SEDETUR said that so far this year, this region has observed a rise of about 4.6% in tourist arrivals and has sustained hotel occupancy of more than 80%. These figures offer Quintana Roo a record-high in the gross volume of tourists.
But then, more unique was the distribution of tourists between Riviera May and Cancun since each destination has been distributed 4.8 million travellers.
These cities have withstood the impacts of the global economic slowdown owing to the selection of golf courses, nature, marinas, hotels, archaeological zones as well as different tours. The report by SEDETUR said that over the Easter holiday, this region had registered a hotel occupancy rate at 87.9% with 629,271 tourists, ushering in a value of nearly $439.7 million USD.
The president of the Cancun and Puerto Morelos Hotel Association named Carlos Gosselin Maurel stated that April witnessed a five percent rise in hotel occupancy as compared to the same period in the year 2016.
2017 also looks quite promising and the growth trends are likely to continue.
Five hotels in this region had been awarded the Green Key status for ‘excellence for responsibility and sustainable management’.
Canadian travellers looking forward to head towards Mexico this year would have new airline options. And, Interjet would start offering non-stop flights to Cancun and Mexico City from Montreal. The service would commence from 13th July, running through 20th January. Currently, tickets for the route are available for purchase.
