True to the words of Egyptian Minister of Tourism, “Egypt is still an appealing global touristic destination,” the country has indeed attracted tourists and celebrities from around the world in tune with tourism recovery in the country. Experts are assuming that tourism in Egypt is awake again.
Tourism sector in Egypt has revived again after some celebrities visited the Egyptian pyramids, one of the world seven wonders. These celebrities, like Barcelona FC star Lionel Messi, German Chancellor Angela Merkel, Hollywood star Will Smith, took pictures that went viral on social media.
These stars were attracted by the splendour of Egyptian tourist sites like Aswan and Luxor and the Egyptian rich and ancient civilization. Just a few days ago, Luxor hosted the Indian Star Amitabh Bachchan and Prince Henrik of Denmark with his wife who enjoyed great trips in the Nile River. These trips grabbed a lot of attention and headlines in Egyptian and Western media, boosting Egypt’s popularity and image as a destination.
Tourism recovery of Egypt can also be measured from increase of flight and hotel bookings. The Egyptian Tourism Authority is currently negotiating with owners of the “Mall of Egypt” to transform the mall into an international touristic destination having the first-of-its-kind ice-skating center in Egypt and Africa. Egypt also took part in the recently concluded ITB Berlin and showcased its national tourism products, safety and security measures and positive security developments. The Egypt- Russia travel ban is also over and flights are expected to resume soon.
