Kvarner’s tourism season of 2017 has commenced with an increase in tourist arrivals as well as overnight stays as compared to the year 2016.
This region had witnessed an 11% increase in arrivals and 12% in overnight stays in January 2017, as compared to the same period last year. Foreign tourists had accounted for 55% of this statistics and domestic tourists comprised 45% of the result.
During January 2017, most of the overnights were represented by domestic tourists that made up for 32,528 overnight stays.
Second, guests from Austria comprised 9,398 overnights followed by Italians that were responsible for 8,369 overnights, 3,714 overnights for Germans, guests from the United States that numbered about 3,255 overnights and Slovenians who were responsible for 3,595 overnights.
Nearly half of the overnight stays were taken up by Opatija Riviera and 20% originated from the Rijeka area.
The islands of Losinj and Gorski Kotar each made up for 8% of the overnight stays. A majority of the guests resided in hotels that accounted for about 60% of overnight stays. The households were represented with 24% and the other accommodations were represented by about 16%.
Irena Zivadinov, the director of the Kvarner Tourism Board said that the excellent tourism results of 2016 have well continued even into this year. Grand events like carnivals have always been able to draw in a large number of tourists.
He went on to add that they have started observing a rise in the number of tourists visiting the 4 and 5 star hotels where they have been staying overnight.
This indicates that quality guests are arriving in this part of the world.
Speaking of commercial and even non-commercial traffic, Kvarner recorded 79,000 overnight stays during January 2017 and this figure marks a 18% rise in the same since January 2016.
