Scotland is ready to welcome a record-breaking cruise season in 2017, thanks to the overwhelming number of 808 cruise ships and about 6,56,000 passengers who are expected to arrive next year.
This figure marks a 19.5% rise in cruise tourists year-on-year, as revealed by a Cruise Scotland report.
Cruise lines like Edinburgh, Invergordon and Greenock have added more cruise vessels to the ports of Scotland. The cruise season of 2017 is expected to attract about $72.5 million for the economy of Scotland.
The cruise season of 2016 witnessed as many as 676 cruise ships and nearly 4,84,000 passengers that marked an increase of 35% from 2015.
Andrew Hemphill, the chairman of Cruise Scotland said that the expectations for next year imply that since 2010, the spending of the organization have more than doubled. He went on to add that the fact that the number of cruise vessels and their passengers are continuing to increase bear testimony to the fact that Scotland is gaining popularity as a highly favored cruise destination.
Cruise Scotland is an organization that has been set up with an aim to promote the region of Scotland as a premier cruise tourism locale and increase the country’s market share.
The organization has revealed that within 2010and 2017, the number of cruise ships arriving in Scotland would have increased by 119%.
