Dubai becomes more smart, taxis to offer free Wi-fi

Dubai Taxi
Dubai Taxi Corporation (DTC) and the Roads & Transport Authority (RTA) have introduced free Wi-Fi on board their limousine taxis in October 2016. However, a recent announcement said that all DTC taxis will feature interactive LCD screens, as well as a free Wi-Fi service starting December.
The test-run of screens will be commissioned December 2016. The move is in line with the strategy of Dubai Government to rank Dubai as the smartest city worldwide and realize RTA’s First Strategic Goal ‘Smart Dubai.’
Dr. Yousef Mohammed Al Ali, CEO of RTA’s Dubai Taxi Corporation, said, “The debut of interactive LCD screens and Wi-Fi service on board taxicabs is the first of its kind in Dubai emirate. These touch screens enable customers view commercials of RTA’s services as well as major tourist attractions in the Emirate. Customers will also be able, for the first time, calculate taxi fares in advance. To maximize people happiness in Dubai, customers’ satisfaction surveys will be run on these screens in a bid to upgrade taxi services and achieve the highest customers’ satisfaction & happiness ratings.”
“RTA is keen to capitalize on cutting-edge technologies in achieving a quantum leap in the taxi sector. The project is part of DTC’s drive to provide innovative transit services in keeping with the tourist profile of Dubai, and meet the needs of all residents & visitors of Dubai in the lead up to Expo 2020. It also reflects the ambitions & plans of our leaders and echoes RTA’s Third Strategic Goal ‘People Happiness’ and Vision: ‘Safe and Smooth Transport for All.’”
The DTC taxis are the red-roofed ones. So if you’re wondering why your yellow-topped taxi isn’t kitted out, it’s probably not DTC.
