August 2016 YTD U.S. - International Air Passenger Traffic up Six Percent

Total International Traffic up Four Percent in August 
China ’Inbound’ Air traffic up 12 Percent
International air traffic to/from the U.S. (1)totaled 150.5 million passengers through August 2016, a six percent increase over the August 2015 year-to-date period.
U.S. citizen travel (70.8 million) was up nine percent and composed 47 percent of all air traffic. Non-U.S. citizen air travelers (79.7 million) increased by four percent with their market share at 53 percent.
U.S. airlines carried 74.2 million passengers, up three percent, with their share slipping to 49 percent. Foreign flags carried 76.3 million passengers, up nine percent from same period 2015.

The following, overseas, Canada and Mexico regions are ‘breakouts’ of international:
Overseas air traffic accounted for 111.1 million passengers, 74 percent of all international, and grew by six percent.
U.S. citizen travel (51.1 million) was up seven percent composing 46 percent of overseas air traffic. Non-U.S. citizen air traveler (60.0 million) was up by five percent with their market share at 54 percent.
U.S. airlines carried 52.4 million passengers, up three percent, their share down to 47 percent. Foreign flags carried 58.7 million passengers, up nine percent from August 2015 YTD.

Estimated capacity (426,827 seats) on non-stop flights from PRC was up 12.0 percent year-over-year, matching inbound passenger growth of 12.0 percent.
Chinese carriers increased average weekly frequencies from 165 to 192, up 16 percent.
U.S. carriers increased average weekly frequencies from 138 to 141, up two percent
North American markets accounted for 26 percent of U.S. international air traffic flows.
Canadian air traffic accounted for 19.8 million passengers, 13 percent of all international traffic, and increased by two percent.
U.S. citizen travel (6.4 million) increased 14 percent and composed 33 percent of air traffic. Canadian, and other foreign national citizen air travelers transiting through Canada (13.3 million), declined by three percent. Market share slipped to 67 percent.
U.S. flags carried 7.5 million passengers, down six percent from last year, with their share dropping to 38 percent. Foreign flags carried 12.2 million passengers, up eight percent.

Mexico air traffic accounted for 19.7 million passengers, 13 percent of all international traffic, and was up eight percent.
U.S. citizen travel (13.3 million) increased 12 percent and composed almost 68 percent of air traffic. Mexicans, and other foreign national air travelers (6.4 million) transiting through Mexico, was flat, with market share at almost 33 percent.
U.S. flags carried 14.3 million passengers, up eight percent from last year, and their share slipped to just below 73 percent. Foreign flags carried 5.4 million passengers, up 10 percent increasing share to 27 percent.
