Visitors warned to stay clear of northern Japan forests as 4 die in bear attack

Parts of northern Japan are being invaded by bear and people have been warned to stay clear from the mountain forests. The number of bear sightings has risen in the area. Four people were killed in spate of bear attacks.

A women’s body was found in the Akita prefecture mauled by a bear in a mountain forest over the weekend. She suffered such severe injuries that local authorities were unable to identify her.

Officials have issued warnings and people have been discouraged to visit the area due to the fatal attacks by the bear.
Sightings of brown bears and black Asiatic bears in northern Japan have risen to over 1,200 already this year, almost twice the number reported last year. In some cases, the animals have been spotted near residential areas.
There have been sightings of mother with a cub in several other prefectures and reports of small injuries from bear attacks are heard of.
Experts say people can lower the risk of being attacked by carrying a bell, since in most cases bears are wary of humans. In the event that they come face to face with a bear, the advice is to retreat slowly, watching the animal the whole time. However, for the adventurous lot this may help but the risks of being attacked by a bear can cost you life so watch out!
