San Sebastian most expensive destination in Spain

LONDON - San Sebastian is the most expensive summer destination in Spain, according to a survey conducted by TravelMag.com. The survey compared the cost of lodging in 40 popular Spanish destinations across July and August 2016.

For each location, the average nightly rate for the cheapest available double room during these months was established. Only hotels rated at least three stars and situated close to the city centre or beach were considered for the survey.

With an average rate of 154 euros for the least expensive room, San Sebastian in northern Spain came top of the rankings. Just two euros cheaper in second position was Peniscola, located on the Costa del Azahar, 220km south of Barcelona. The Balearic island of Ibiza completed the podium with an average rate of 144 euros per night.

A cheaper choice would be the Catalonia capital of Barcelona, where you are likely to spend around €100 euros for a room in a well-located part of the city. But for a truly budget choice, with an average rate of only €62 euros for the most affordable room, it would be hard to find better value than the Spanish capital of Madrid this summer.

The following table shows the 10 most expensive destinations in Spain, based on the average rate for the least expensive double room during the months of July and August 2016.
