MIA Officials Strengthen Ties With Asia And India During Major World Conferences

Last week, Miami-Dade Aviation Department (MDAD) representatives traveled to Singapore and Mumbai to participate in the 12th Aviation Festival Asia and the 6th International Air Cargo India conferences, respectively, and to meet with key aviation industry officials in the bustling world regions. The trips provided an opportunity to promote and develop new business opportunities at Miami International Airport with air carriers, handling companies, forwarders and shippers.

MIA was the only U.S. airport invited to make a presentation at the 12th Aviation Festival Asia in Singapore. At the Festival’s Global Aviation Leadership Forum, MDAD Chief of Staff Joseph Napoli detailed the benefits of nonstop service between Asia and Miami by highlighting the strong passenger demand as well as the economic, educational and cultural links that exist between the two regions. Additionally, the Asia-Pacific and Latin American regions were two of the top growth areas in 2015, amid the best year for global air traffic performance in five years, according to the International Air Transport Association (IATA).

While it was MIA’s first time at the 6th International Air Cargo India in Mumbai, the airport participated in an invitation-only round table focused on global pharmaceutical logistics. MDAD Aviation Trade and Logistics Manager Emir Pineda discussed MIA’s strategy and process for earning IATA’s designation as the first pharmaceuticals freight hub in the Western Hemisphere and only the second in the world.

“Asia and India are booming air service regions and two primary targets in our strategic plan for both passenger and cargo growth,” said MDAD Director Emilio T. González. “By meeting with prospective business partners in their home markets, we are demonstrating that we are 100-percent committed to making any expansion to Miami a success.”

Aviation Festival Asia

In 2004, the World Low Cost Airlines Congress Asia was launched in Singapore. With a modest 234 attendees in its first year, the event has grown steadily over the last 10 years, reaching more than 1,000 attendees in 2015 and becoming the “must go” event for Asian carriers and their partners.

International Air Cargo India

Organized by STAT Times, Air Cargo India is the largest event of its kind for the Indian air cargo industry and global leaders looking to explore the emerging market. This biennial event has been attracting overwhelming response from key players globally and from the Indian air freight community and regulators. As a rising economic powerhouse, the event marks significant worldwide progress for the Indian air cargo industry.
