Jatbula Trail in Nitmiluk National Park to be upgarded

The popular Jatbula Trail, in the pristine Nitmiluk National Park is set to undergo an upgrade as part of the government’s commitment to protecting and improving the Territory’s outdoor spaces.

A tender has today been released for stage one upgrades at Jatbula Trail for installation of new composting toilets at Biddlecombe Cascades, Crystal Falls, 17 Mile Falls, Sandy Camp, and Sweetwater along the stunning hiking trail.

Minister for Parks and Wildlife Bess Nungarrayi Price said further improvements to the walking trail would occur later in the year, including installing some park furniture and extending campgrounds.
“The development of the new campsites and infrastructure is expected to lure even more hikers to the trail who are keen to take part in this experience,” she said.

“Nitmiluk National Park has become a focus for visitors to the Top End. The upgrades to the Parks facilities will ensure guests and locals alike will be able to enjoy the park in more comfort.
“The installation of new and improved toilet systems is expected to cater for larger demand of people using the trail.”

The 60 kilometre Jatbula Trail is a seasonal walk from Nitmiluk to Leliyn (Edith Falls), which is best enjoyed over five days / four nights.
This 292,800 hectare National Park is owned by the Jawoyn Aboriginal people and jointly managed with the Parks and Wildlife Commission of the Northern Territory.
