Development authorisation has been granted for an international golf course and resort on the south-east coast of Kangaroo Island.
The multi-million dollar proposal by developer Programmed Turnpoint Pty Ltd aims to establish a significant tourist attraction for the Island, providing employment opportunities and economic benefits.
Planning Minister John Rau said that the Resort is expected to create up to 50 full-time jobs when fully operational.
“In February, 2014 this project was declared a major development and today, following
extensive consultation with the public and the local council, the Governor has signed off on the development authorisation,” Mr Rau said.
“Kangaroo Island is one of our best known tourism regions. It is loved for its premium, fresh local food and wine.
“Now, it will also have a world-class 18-hole, championship-length golf course, associated
international standard practice facilities and a clubhouse with dining and functions facilities. We expect that, once built, the Resort will greatly benefit tourism.
“The Government’s vision for Kangaroo Island is clear and this is another step towards
achieving that.”
Also planned for the Kangaroo Island Golf Resort are accommodation lodges, comprising 20 twin-bedroom suites with self-contained facilities.
Kangaroo Island Commissioner Wendy Campana said the golf course will be a terrific asset for the Island.
“The recently announced funding by State and Federal governments to upgrade the airport will provide ready access to interstate and international tourists to come to the Island to play golf, take in the sites on offer and enjoy the local produce,” Ms Campana said.
“Kangaroo Island has so much to offer and it’s great that Programmed Turnpoint Pty Ltd has recognised this and is investing in the Island.”
