San Francisco International Airport Recognizes Airport 911 Dispatchers


SAN FRANCISCO –– the San Francisco International Airport (SFO) recognized the staff of the Airport’s 911 Dispatch Center as part of National Public Safety Telecommunicators Week. The team of 28 Airport Communications Dispatchers were honored at a recognition event on April 15, 2015.

“Airport Communication Dispatchers play an important role in providing a safe, secure, and efficient operation at SFO,” said Airport Director John L. Martin. “The dispatchers are truly the pulse of our Airport, and I thank the entire team for their dedication and professionalism.”

The 911 dispatch staff performs a variety of service for passengers, airlines, vendors, and employees. The team dispatches all appropriate resources to keep the Airport running smoothly, including law enforcement, fire and medical professionals, airport custodians, maintenance, and technical staff.

The Airport’s Communications Center is equipped with state-of-the-art equipment, including computer-aided dispatch systems, multi-frequency radio, closed-circuit television (CCTV), and enhanced 911 phone systems. Each dispatcher has completed state-certified Peace Officer Standards and Training.

On average, the SFO 9-1-1 Communications Center answers 1,060 emergency calls in a month. In 2014, SFO’s Communications Center processed 448,000 calls for service. Dispatcher services include all courtesy phone operations, and public address system announcements around SFO.
