ABTA announces theme of ‘Risk and Resilience’ for The Travel Convention

ABTA has unveiled the theme of ‘Risk and Resilience’ for this year’s Travel Convention. This theme will run throughout the business sessions, which will address how the travel industry and travel businesses can plan for and offset risks in an increasingly complex working environment.

Ian Goldin, Professor of Globalisation and Development and Director of the Oxford Martin School at the University of Oxford has been announced as the first speaker for this year’s event and is sponsored by Touchstone Underwriting Limited and Catlin Insurance. Vice President of the World Bank (2003-2006) and prior to that, the Bank’s Director of Development Policy (2001-2003), Goldin has received wide recognition for his contributions to development and business leadership and was nominated Global Leader of Tomorrow by the World Economic Forum. His presentation will offer insight into the major shifts in society and technology and identify the opportunities and strategies needed to build resilience against risk in the travel and tourism industry.

The Travel Convention will take place from 12-14 October 2015. It is being hosted by the Region of Peloponnese and the Greek National Tourist Office supported by Costa Navarino, the Westin Resort Costa Navarino and Aegean Airlines.

Mark Tanzer, ABTA Chief Executive said: “We are all operating in an increasingly connected and increasingly uncertain global network. By nature of what we do as an industry we have a high level of exposure to political, economic and business risk. But history also shows that it is in times of uncertainty that the greatest businesses have been created, so we shall be looking at how you manage downside risk, but also how you seize the future.”
