Gulf Air, the Kingdom of Bahrain’s national carrier, and Challenge Bahrain today announced a partnership deal under which the carrier will become the official airline partner of the Kingdom’s annual triathlon event, scheduled to take place this December 06, 2014.
Challenge Bahrain is the first branded international triathlon to be held in the Middle East and will see professional and amateur athletes from Bahrain, the region and beyond, competing side by side to complete the 113 kilometer race that consists of a 1.9-kilometer swim, 90-kilometer bike ride and 21-kilometer run.
Gulf Air Acting Chief Executive Officer Mr. Maher Salman Al Musallam spoke at the signing ceremony which took place at the airline’s Muharraq headquarters: “This sponsorship agreement presents a noteworthy opportunity for Gulf Air to further advance its role of Ambassador to the Kingdom of Bahrain. We are always looking for opportunities to raise awareness of the many attractions Bahrain has to offer, facilitating travel to the Kingdom and giving visitors the chance to experience the trademark Arabian hospitality for which our national carrier is renowned.”
Commenting on the signing with Gulf Air, Challenge Bahrain’s General Manager, Dr. Saqer bin Salman Al Khalifa said: “We are delighted to have Gulf Air, the Kingdom of Bahrain’s national carrier and a renowned global brand, come onboard in support of the first branded international triathlon event in the Middle East. This sponsorship agreement will facilitate travel to Bahrain, allowing us the opportunity to welcome guests from various parts of the world who can now travel to Bahrain to watch or participate in Challenge Bahrain at highly competitive fares. We look forward to leveraging this relationship with our national carrier and hope to see it further strengthened in the future.”
The Kingdom of Bahrain is hosting Challenge Bahrain for the first time this year and the event is expected to attract more than 1,000 participants both from the region and beyond to Bahrain next month.
In addition to Challenge Bahrain, Gulf Air is the Official Airline and Sponsor of the biennial Bahrain International Airshow and has maintained the role of title sponsor of the Bahrain Grand Prix since it made history in April 2004 as the first Formula One Grand Prix to be held in the Middle East.
