6 Signs You’re Addicted to Cruising

I’m here to tell you that cruise addiction is real. Your next fix can only be satisfied by booking – and then sailing – on your next cruise. Since we all love cruising so much, we thought we’d have a little fun and share with you the warning signs of cruise addiction.

You measure in cruises

Some health experts recommend looking at sweets and treats and then measuring how many miles you’d have to run or burpees you’d have to do before you enjoy them. It’ll make you think twice before super sizing your fries and ordering that milkshake. I know I’m addicted to cruising because I think about how many cruises I can take – or drinks of the day I can buy or shore excursions I can purchase – before I make pretty much any purchase. Even the unavoidable ones. Oh, the mortgage payment is the same amount as a cruise – bummer. Or, gotta buy a new car – the less it is, the more cruising I can do. Cruising is your currency when you’re addicted.

Your room is modeled after a ship’s cabin.

You love your cruise line’s bed and look so much that you’ve splurged and purchased the mattresses, the bedding, the pillows, even the shower curtain to try and create a cabin experience in the privacy of your own bedroom.

You have a cruise reputation

When I ask for time off at work (and let’s be honest, I’m only there to fund my cruising habit in the first place), I almost always get this question: “Where’s this cruise going?” I run into co-workers in the hallway and they ask me both if I’ve just been on a cruise and when my next one is. If you’re truly addicted to cruising, people know it and they know you’re the person to ask about a cruise vacation.

You choose your wardrobe with cruising in mind

When you’re shopping for clothes, you’ll’ make comments like “Oh, wrinkle resistant – awesome!” or “This will look great for formal night” or “I can wear this sweater when it gets chilly in the theater.” You know which fabrics to avoid – silk wrinkles like the dickens! – and which ones do the best in a suitcase for long periods of times. Your addiction has truly carried over into your ‘normal’ life as this point.

Your social media feeds are cruises

You follow the cruise lines, the cruise news and industry experts (look for us on social media too – @cruiseradio). It’s the last thing you look at before bed and the first thing you see when you wake up. It’s your screensaver, wallpaper and usually your status update. You know what you like and if you can’t be on a cruise right this second, you’re going to live vicariously through these cruise social media feeds.

You plan your next cruise while on your current one

A true addict is always planning their next fix. And cruising addiction is no different. Several times I’ve walked off a ship knowing where and when I’m sailing again. I’ve even put money down and made a reservation before. Cruise addicts pretty much have a cruise countdown at all times.

Ship’s names are often unique and different. And memorable, which actually does translate well sometimes to the naming decision of your newest, furriest member of the family. Think about it: Breeze, Magic, Sunshine, Glory, Princess, Diamond, Ruby, and Pearl. I could keep going and going, but I think you get the idea.
How would you answer this question: You know you’re addicted to cruising when _____? We’d love to hear your answers, so please shoot us an email and join us in our cruising addiction.
