International film festival returns to Perth

Thousands of people will be treated to 116 films, including more than 40 premieres, at the 17th Revelation Perth International Film Festival beginning tomorrow.
Tourism Minister Liza Harvey said the event featured a diverse mix of national and international documentaries, narrative features, animations and short films.

“Festival attendees are guaranteed to be entertained by a broad range of local, national and international films from more than 30 countries including Finland, the USA, Ireland, Japan, Taiwan, Syria and India,” Mrs Harvey said.

“This year’s festival has also attracted more than 60 national and international guests.

“The Revelation Perth International Film Festival is proudly supported by the State Government through Tourism WA and ScreenWest.”

The 2014 festival highlights include Finding Vivian Maier, a documentary about a nanny with a secret passion for street photography and Locke, a feature film about a man whose life is drastically changed by a series of phone calls.

Culture and the Arts Minister John Day said ScreenWest had been a proud sponsor of Revelation since it began in 1997.

“Revelation provides a unique opportunity to enjoy groundbreaking, independent international and Australian films, documentaries and short films not available for viewing elsewhere,” Mr Day said.

“The film festival is one of Australia’s most popular annual film events and I encourage audiences to take part in the various programs, especially Get Your Shorts On! which showcases the high calibre of short films created by local filmmakers.”
