Tourists can now see the seventh wonder of the world, the Taj Mahal, in just 90 minutes from Delhi. The Indian Railways has launched in its high speed Shatabdi Express train, a 90 minutes service, from New Delhi to Agra.
Railway Board Chairman Arunendra Kumar said the journey that normally took three hours will now be covered in 90 minutes.
Agra, famous for its timeless monument The Taj Mahal, which gets millions of domestic and international visitation throughout the year could either be visited by road which takes nearly three hours or by normal train service which also takes three hours.
Apart from The Taj, the historical city of Agra is famous for Fatehpur Sikri the fabulous creation of red sandstone, The Agra Fort, Panch Mahal – Agra, Mehtab Bagh, Musamman Burj, Moti Masjid, Birbal Bhavan, Agra Art Gallery, Dayal Bagh, Jama Masjid, Jahangir Mahal, Shah Burj, Ram Bagh, Taj Museum, Anguri Bagh, Tomb of Mariam Zamani and many more destinations are visited by tourists from around the world. People from Delhi often indulge in short trips to Agra, and now the journey will take only half the time.
Semi-high speed trains running at 160 km per hour will not only run from Delhi-Agra but this service will be extended to other destinations such as Delhi-Chandigarh, The Railways have asked High-Speed Rail Corporation to prepare the project report. The trains will run on the existing track using present engines and coaches with minor upgradation. The tracks are capable of withstanding the high speed feels the Railway department.
