1) Aus visa policies inhibiting travel
Australia is missing out on the full potential of visitors into the country due to strict visa regulations, according to The World Travel & Tourism Council (WTTC) President and CEO David Scowsill. The WTTC unveiled its 2014 Annual Economic Impact Report for Australia today, and is urging Australian Government to extend e-visas to high spending Asian travellers. The report revealed a disappointing year for economic contribution to Australia’s travel and tourism, growing by just 1.7 percent in 2013. “The Australian Government can’t afford to rest on its laurels and needs to take decisive action to grow Travel & Tourism’s economic slice,” Mr Scowsill pointed out. 4) Review needed on high costs of Syd Airport rail
The high cost of travel on Sydney Airport trains is forcing tourists and workers off the rails according to Tourism Accommodation Australia (TAA). TAA is calling on the NSW Government to accept recommendations to provide concessions for those people travelling by train to the Sydney Airport precinct. An average taxi fare from Sydney CBD to the airport is $26, but by comparison a single fare for three passengers on the Airport Link is $47.70. This cost is pushing people into taxis or private vehicles which in turn clog up the roads. The concessional fares for workers and groups utilising the Airport Link suggests a reduction in congestion between the city and airport.
