Fujita Kanko Announces Sendai Washington Hotel Opening

On December 17th, leading Japanese hospitality company Fujita Kanko Inc. opens a new Washington Hotel in Sendai, Japan, an excellent addition to the reasonably-priced modern hotels offered by the company’s Washington Hotels group.

Ideally located across from the JR station in Sendai, the capital city of

Miyagi Prefecture in the Tohoku region (the northern part of Japan), the Sendai Washington Hotel will deliver convenience, comfort and efficiency to business and leisure travelers.

The newly-built hotel will offer a restaurant featuring local products and Sendai specialties, and 223 guest rooms, all with free wi-fi and spacious bathrooms with separated toilets. The hotel also boasts a female-guests-only section. The rooms in this section feature amenities and decor to meet women travelers’ needs.

To promote local designers, Fujita Kanko also held a contest to design rooms featuring Miyagi Prefecture. Three designers were selected to design one-of-a-kind Miyagi rooms for the hotel.

Sendai, just two hours from JR Tokyo station on the bullet train, is the largest city in Tohoku and a gateway to the region, which offers rich cultural and historical heritages as well as breathtaking scenery. Sendai City was first built by a legendary warrior and lord, Date Masamune, in the 17th century. Sites of interests in the city include: Sendai Castle Site, Zuihoden Mausoleum and Osaki Hachimangu Shrine. Matsushima, known as one of Japan’s most scenic spots, is a 25 minute-train ride away.

“Our hotel is an ideal base for traveling around Tohoku, which has famous hot springs, and beautiful ocean, mountains and lake regions,” said Kazuki Hayashi, the hotel’s general manger. “There are things to enjoy in each season. We are happy to welcome and help international guests plan their itineraries.”

There are eight other Washington Hotels in the Tohoku region, and Fujita Kanko also operates Towada Hotel, an upscale resort hotel in Akita Prefecture, open from April through November.
