The Pacific Asia Travel Association (PATA)
Education and Training Committee will organise the PATA Youth Symposia on the
afternoon of September 13, at Chengdu Polytechnic, Huayuan Campus.
With the theme China , World and Your
Career in Hospitality and Tourism, the Symposium will commence prior to the
2013 PATA Travel Mart and is aiming to attract hundreds of young professionals
and students from overseas and around China .
“Next generation visitor economy professionals and students need to take proactive steps to build their career and expand their networking opportunities,” says Martin Craigs, PATA Chief Executive Officer. “This event is designed to provide students with an opportunity to share new ideas, learn about innovative concepts and most importantly give them a chance to make real connections with the industry.”
The programme was developed with guidance from Professor Kaye Chon, Dean,School of Hotel and Tourism Management, Hong Kong Polytechnic University .
Speakers include Mr. Peter Semone, Chairman, PATA Education and Training Committee and Director of the Lao National Institute of Tourism and Hospitality (Lanith), Dr. Markus Schuckert, Assistant Professor, School of Hotel & Tourism Management,Hong Kong Polytechnic University , Dr. Chris Bottrill, Dean, Faculty of
Tourism and Outdoor Recreation, Capilano University ,
and Prof. Kaye Chon.
“The PATA Youth Symposia series is meant to give young people an opportunity to engage with PATA and its members during major PATA events held around the region,” explained Mr. Peter Semone. “It is important that the industry's future leaders are given access to leading thought leaders on issues that will help them climb the career ladder.”
The event offers sessions such as Attitude, Knowledge and Skills to Succeed in Modern Hospitality and Tourism, Development and Dynamics in the Asian Aviation Markets – How This Boosts Your Career in Transport and Tourism, How Will Your Generation Change Tourism and Tourism Careers in the Future?, Pandas, Penguins & Pussycats – Being Creative and Innovative in Tourism and Preparing Yourself for a Successful Career in Tourism and Hospitality.
In recent years, the PATA Education and Training Committee has organised successful educational events at various institutions including UCSI University Sarawak Campus (April 2010), Institute for Tourism Studies (September 2010),Beijing International Studies University (April 2011) and Taylor 's
University, Kuala Lumpur (April
2012), Lyceum of the Philippines University , Manila (September 2012) and Thammasat University , Bangkok (April 2013).
