Groupon has acquired Blink Booking, a
Madrid-based startup for last-minute hotel booking at boutique and premium
hotels throughout Europe .
The daily deals site has acquired last-minute hotel booking app Blink to add to its Groupon Getaways travel business.
The move comes a few days after HotelTonight, the San Francisco-based company that offers a similar service — focused mostly thus far on theU.S. — raised a giant $45 million
investment round.
Groupon Getaways was launched in 2011 and works with hotels and other partners in a total of 48 countries to provide consumers with travel deals including hotel discounts and full-service tours. Blink has partnerships with more than 2,000 hotels in eight European countries and will no doubt add another invaluable layer to Groupon’s already-existing travel deals.
The Blink app will be rebranded as “Blink by Groupon”.
