Lufthansa Cargo also eco-efficient on the ground

40 new Industrial trucks provide a considerable increase in efficiency at the Frankfurt hub

Lufthansa Cargo handles around 1.4 million tons of freight and mail at Frankfurt Airport every year. With its ground transport equipment, so-called industrial trucks, the logistics specialist is now taking a big step forward with respect to energy efficiency.

In the Lufthansa Cargo Center, the largest location of Lufthansa Cargo, at the end of July 40 existing electric-powered vehicles will be taken out of service and replaced by state-of-the-art energy efficient models: 31 new electric fork trucks and nine electric tractors will then go into operation. “With the same performance, the new industrial trucks use around 14 percent less energy than their predecessors. They operate much more efficiently and can be used longer before the battery needs charging”, according to Bettina Mörth, Environmental Officer of Lufthansa Cargo.

In total, Lufthansa Cargo has over 120 of these industrial trucks which, with one exception which transports particularly heavy loads of nine to twelve tons, are all electric-powered. That is fully in line with the commitment of all business divisions of the Lufthansa Group, to steadily increase efficiency at all levels and to act as ecologically compatibly as possible – in the air and on the ground.
