February 2013 YTD U.S. - International Air Passenger Traffic up Three Percent


Total International Air Traffic was 26.7 Million Passengers
European Traffic down One Percent; South America, Middle East up Nine Percent

International air traffic to/from the U.S. (1) totaled 26.7 million passengers through February 2013, a three percent increase over February 2012 year-to-date. U.S. citizen travel (11.1 million) was flat and comprised 42 percent of all air traffic. However, non-U.S. citizen air travelers (15.6 million) increased by five percent raising their market share to 58 percent.
U.S. airlines carried 14.4 million passengers, up one percent, holding their share at 54 percent. Foreign flags carried 12.4 million passengers, up four percent from same period 2012.

The following, overseas, Canada and Mexico regions are ‘breakouts’ of international:
Overseas air traffic accounted for 19.2 million passengers, 72 percent of all international, and grew by two percent. U.S. citizen travel (8.2 million) decreased one percent and comprised 43 percent of overseas air traffic. Non-U.S. citizen air travelers (11.0 million) increased by five percent increasing their market share to 57 percent.
U.S. airlines carried 9.9 million passengers, up one percent, their share dropping from 53 to 52 percent. Foreign flags carried 9.3 million passengers, up four percent from February 2012 ytd.

North American markets accounted for 28 percent of U.S. international air traffic flows.
Canadian air traffic accounted for 4.1 million passengers, 15 percent of all international traffic, and increased by four percent. U.S. citizen travel (759,000) increased four percent and comprised only 19 percent of air traffic. Canadian, and other foreign national citizen air travelers transiting through Canada (3.3 million), increased by four percent. Market share remained unchanged.
U.S. flags carried 1.7 million passengers, up five percent from last year, and their share remained at 42 percent. Foreign flags carried 2.4 million passengers, up four percent. .

Mexico air traffic accounted for 3.4 million passengers, 13 percent of all international traffic, and was up 3 percent. U.S. citizen travel (2.2 million) increased two percent and comprised 64 percent of all air traffic. Mexicans, and other foreign national air travelers (1.2 million) transiting through Mexico, increased by five percent holding market share at 36 percent.
U.S. flags carried 2.7 million passengers, up one percent from last year, and their share dropped from 80 to 79 percent. Foreign flags carried 721,000 passengers, up nine percent increasing share to 21 percent.
