Omio partners with Direct Ferries to expand global ferry access for international travellers

BERLIN – Omio, the global travel booking platform for multimodal transport, has entered into a strategic partnership with Direct Ferries that will significantly expand its ferry offering and unlock new route options for international travellers.

The agreement, signed in July 2025 and going live this December, integrates Direct Ferries’ network of more than 2,000 routes operated by 150 additional ferry carriers into Omio’s platform. The partnership is described as a major step in Omio’s mission to unify all modes of transport in a single booking environment.

For travel trade professionals, the move strengthens Omio’s value proposition as a one-stop platform for rail, air, bus and now a much deeper layer of ferry content, creating new opportunities for multimodal itineraries and dynamic packaging.

The expanded ferry coverage will enhance connectivity in key regions such as Northern Europe, including Sweden, Norway, Finland, the UK and Ireland. It will also introduce new multimodal combinations in Southeast Asia, where Omio already connects flights and buses, and across North America, where Omio currently unifies trains, flights and buses. In addition, the collaboration opens entirely new geographical markets to Omio’s global audience, including Australasia, Central America and the Caribbean.

Ferries are already an increasingly popular choice among Omio users, thanks to their flexibility and range of travel formats, from long-distance overnight sailings with cabins to high-speed island connections. They also offer practical advantages, often allowing passengers to travel with vehicles, bicycles or additional luggage.

Through the integration with Direct Ferries, Omio travellers will gain access to key seasonal and leisure routes in Southeast Asia, such as Phuket – Koh Phi Phi, Phuket – Koh Lanta and Koh Samui – Koh Tao, bookable directly via the Omio platform.

Veronica Diquattro, President, B2C and Supply at Omio, said: “We are thrilled to partner with Direct Ferries, instantly elevating our ferry booking options across multiple regions. This collaboration represents a major leap towards our vision of seamless global multimodal travel, empowering travellers with greater choice, convenience, and flexibility than ever before.”

Niall Walsh, CEO at Direct Ferries, highlighted the role of technology and aggregation in a traditionally fragmented sector: “At Direct Ferries, we are proud to support Omio’s expansion, one of the world’s leading travel brands. The ferry sector has traditionally been complex and fragmented, but the Direct Ferries Connect API, acting as a global ferry GDS, now simplifies this through a single agreement and one unified technical integration. It gives Omio instant access to our full worldwide ferry inventory. We’re excited to support Omio as it brings even greater choice to travellers worldwide.”
