The Canadian metropolis of Toronto saw growth in the tourism sector due to the Chinese travellers.
Andrew Weir, executive vice president and chief marketing officer of Tourism Toronto, said he expects that the Chinese tourist to bring more meaningful growth not only for Toronto but for Canada as well.
As per the Immigration, Refugees and Citizenship Canada (IRCC), an 18-percent growth of Chinese visitors in Canada in 2017 fetched an additional revenue of nearly 1.25 billion Canadian dollars (1 billion U.S. dollars).
Weir mentioned that they were seeing travellers from around the world like Mexico, Brazil and Germany but the strongest growth was from China.
The tourism community in Toronto facilitated tourism by making services and information available in Mandarin.
With the adoption of Alipay and UnionPay, the popular Chinese payment methods in stored and hotels throughout the city, Toronto is able to make the Chinese customers’ experience more satisfactory.
IRCC allows the usage of UnionPay for visa application fees and 23 percent of all temporary resident visa application in 2017 were from Chinese citizens.
On March 21, the Canada-China Year of Tourism was launched with the motive of further promoting the tourism cooperation.
It was found that last year more than 1.5 million visits were made between the two countries.
