The central United States with the building up of frigid air has led to a weather pattern that can create storm and travel concern over once every five to seven days.
The pattern has been anticipated from December 21 to December 26 has the potential of bringing three storms. It might cause travel disruption in areas from Rockies and southern Plains to the Midwest and Northeast states.
AccuWeather Senior Meteorologist Mike Doll said that areas which will get the maximum chances of snow and ice will depend on how far to the south and east frigid air will be pushing out from the North central states.
The northern Rockies to the Upper Midwest later this week will notice further storm and snow. Due to this cold air settling in different parts of southern Plains to parts of the Ohio Valley will set up a snow zone and ice as it is expected to bring in new storm by Friday.
The areas along the Atlantic Seaboard can expect temperatures to be average near to above normal however an exception may be seen in northern New England at midweek.
Most travellers in the Northeast might have to deal with travel delays due to rain, fog and low cloud ceiling around Saturday as cold air will not be established in time for the arrival of precipitation.
Pockets of ice and snow may form over parts of the northern Appalachians. Doll said that they were concerned that another storm might spring up from the Southwest between Dec. 24 and Christmas Day.
Areas to get rain, snow and ice will be determined by the track of that storm. There are two scenarios where the cold air back over the Midwest and the other one brings the cold air right to the coastal Northeast ahead of the next storm around Christmas.
The Upper Midwest might run dry with areas of lake-effect snow if the cold air pressed farther to the east. Snow and ice may be a concern for the Northeast.
Doll further added that there might be rainy scenario for parts of Northeast, snow and ice problems for the Midwest if the cold air is held back.
All of the Midwest and Northeast might face cold air eastward that would make it dry and colder apart from the traditional bands of lake-effect snow. It is expected that some of the snow and ice may enter parts of Deep South.
