Swimming season kicked off in Korea! Korea’s 257 beaches located along the eastern, western, and southern coasts begin opening up for this year’s swimming season. The first beaches opened on June 1 are Haeundae Beach, Songdo Beach, and Songjeong Beach, all located in Busan.
Haeundae Beach in particular is planning to provide many new amenities to tourists, including a book café, seaside radio program, night swimming and more. In addition, this year will see the operation of a 200m-long waterslide into the ocean, as well as various water leisure sports such as jet skis and banana boats. During the peak season from late July until early August, the beach will remain open for swimming until 21:00.
The first beach to open on the western coast is Daecheon Beach on June 17. This beach also opened quite early last year in comparison to other beaches such as Muchangpo Beach. Most beaches along the western coast can be expected to open for swimming in early to mid-July.
During the operating period, various beaches will also host fun events. Some of these fun happenings to look forward to are the National Singing Contest at Songdo Beach, National Marine Sports Games at Daecheon Beach, and National Air Force Air Show at Gyeongpo Beach.
As the dates vary by each beach, please refer to the below table for the opening dates of the most popular beaches.
