London commuters across the south east are facing long delays with hundreds stranded at com as the heavy rain continued. London Waterloo was packed from 5pm, as thousands tried to make their way home. Photographs showed the station’s concourse filled with people as they waited for information.
Frustrated commuters took to social media to criticise staff for failing to pass on information. Others said the station was experiencing such bad delays because it was flooding.
Many were concerned they would not be able to get home in time to vote in the EU Referendum. The cut off point is 10pm.
The heavy rain is expected to batter parts of the UK this evening, along with more lightning and thunder storms similar to last night.
Earlier, areas across the south east experienced floods and traffic disruption after a deluge of rain hit the country. The wet weather has also disrupted polling stations as people vote in the EU Referendum.
Flooding has swamped parts of England and the fire service has taken more than 550 emergency calls.
Red “immediate action” flood warnings were issued for south-east London and Essex as parts of the capital suffered from nearly a month’s rainfall in just a few hours.
By 10am, they had attended more than 400 incidents, including flooded premises and properties hit by lightning.
