With the advent of summer in Europe, the cruise industry might face alterations in its itineraries due to unpredictable water levels. the river cruise lines are constantly reporting about the high and low water levels and so far , Danube, Rhine and Rhone rivers are reported to have a bit high level while Elbe has a bit low.
With the increased water levels in Danube, Rhine and Rhone rivers, there might be delays and might call for some last minute itinerary adjustments. It might also require to alternate the embarkation or disembarkation points.
Reports stated that the high levels on the Danube are occurring near Passau, Germany, and the high levels on the Rhine are concentrated around southern Germany. The Elbe River, owing to the limited rainfall has already disrupted sailings between Melnik in the Czech Republic and Bad Schandau in Germany. The stretch between Wittenberg and Magdeburg in Germany also faced disruptions for similar reasons.
The waterway companies are taking the help of social media to inform its passengers about the change in the itinerary and are also alerting the cruise passengers about the increased water levels.
In case there is any alterations required at the embarkation and disembarkation points, the companies need to take the responsibility of excursion choices, complimentary accommodations etc. Earlier this month, severe flooding on France’s Seine River caused river cruise disruptions.
