HONG KONG—Miramar Group, a hospitality and retail group and owner of The Mira Hong Kong, will open Mira Moon here on Nov. 1.
Designed by Marcel Wanders in collaboration with yoo Studios, the 91-room hotel reinterprets the mythical Chinese Moon Goddess and the Jade Rabbit, according to the company. From the Wenge timber veneer and window pane murals depicting the fairytale on each guestroom corridor, to the three lanterns cascading from the entrance hall’s ceiling representing each of the key characters, every element of Mira Moon evokes a lighthearted twist on the traditional story.
The first boutique hotel for the Mira brand portfolio, the hotel’s color scheme is lacquered whites and rich China reds, whilst the symbol of the peony is ever-present, embodied in ornately-carved wood paneling, tiled mosaics and sheer curtains that tint the skyscrapers of the city. Design elements also include a lucky charm feature wall in the lobby, which, when viewed closely, reveals the signs of the Chinese zodiac for prosperity.
The hotel’s Boutique on the Moon concept enables guests to purchase the hotel’s style for their own homes and wardrobes—whether it be pieces of Mira Moon furniture by international designers, locally designed accessories or the Mira Moon bespoke fashion collection—all of which are displayed in selected guest closets and rooms. In addition to this new in-room Boutique, rooms also offer bespoke His and Hers bathroom amenity collections; an in-room cocktail recipe sitting alongside a customized Grey Goose cocktail chest; an exclusive Ladies’ Floor offering tailored women’s services; and a Conference Delegate Concierge Service.
Each bathroom in the guestrooms includes a walk-in rain shower, double basins and a separate toilet, with many also featuring freestanding bathtubs overlooking the Hong Kong skyline.
Other elements include a scent of violet perfume and staff outfitted in designs by Grace Choi and hairdos by a dedicated staff stylist.
Technology is also important to the hotel, such as white-lacquered mantels, which frame in-room entertainment systems including 32-in-46-in. HD IPTV with international cable channels, movies-on-demand and AirPlay music systems. For business travelers, in-room iPad minis offer pre-loaded Apps such as Skype, Dropbox and Bloomberg Anywhere, whilst leisure travelers can read pre-loaded eBooks or dock iPads in in-room docking stations. These are loaded with a selection of music, including the signature beats of Resident DJ Helen Ting. Complimentary WiFi is available in all guestrooms and public areas.
The hotel is the recipient of the China Green Building Design Label 3 Star Award, and is pursuing LEED NC-2009 Certification.
