ETOA News | October 2026

Japan is one of ETOA’s founding source markets, and its visitors and businesses have influenced how our industry operates ever since. For Japanese travellers, Europe remains one of the most desirable destinations.
To support and and encourage these connections, we held the inaugural Showcase: Outbound Japan in September, connecting European Tourism suppliers and destinations with Japanese outbound tour operators and agents. Thank you to everyone who joined us.

In just four days we open the doors for the Global European Marketplace 2026. With 800 members and +16,000 meetings scheduled, we look forward to a successful day.

If you are not a member of ETOA yet, make sure to visit our stand at WTM London to hear about membership opportunities. We are exhibiting at stand S4-308. If you would like to set up a meeting, contact us.

How would a 7% increase in retail price impact Europe's competitiveness?

Pending the publication of a proposal to reform the EU’s Tour Operators Margin Scheme (TOMS) and the Commission’s impact assessment, we have published our first analysis of survey results showing the impact of a potential increase of non-EU retail price of 7%.

This is what US-based retailers* expect would happen:

Thanks to all of you who responded to the survey. We will keep you informed on the progress of this proposal and will continue to argue for a more competitive Europe.

Disturbances in France

Feedback from tour operators and accommodation providers suggests that organised tourism is proving remarkably resilient. While some operators have reported increased enquiries about safety, contingency plans and potential itinerary changes, the overwhelming majority have experienced little or no disruption, with tours continuing as planned and groups successfully avoiding affected areas.

A small number of cancellations and destination changes have been reported, particularly from Asian markets, but these seem to remain isolated cases. Reassuringly, travellers currently in France are reporting positive experiences and feeling well looked after.
