Our mouthwatering food and drink is just one of the ingredients that make Scotland an appealing destination. Combine it with the global rise in food tourism and 'scran seekers' (see our Trends for 2026) and it is a recipe for success. Whether it be through restaurants, cafes, hotels, B&Bs, agritourism businesses, suppliers, or tour guides, food and drink is a staple of the visitor experience and a valuable part of the visitor economy. Around one fifth of all visitor-spend by staycationers goes on food and drink, amounting to £719 million a year from overnight trips. This month is Scotland Food & Drink September. A time to celebrate and recognise the businesses, suppliers and producers who make up that wonderful industry. The food and drink sector is incredibly important for Scotland's sustainable tourism goals. It supports year-round tourism, encourages geographical spread and longer stays, and supports local communities. We work closely with businesses, industry partners and leaders, like Scotland Food & Drink, to not only promote our delicious produce and experiences to visitors but support and advise businesses how best to engage with visitor markets and develop their tourism products. Together we can strengthen the visitor economy and grow its value to people and places right across the country. This month, we look at some of the work we have been doing across the sector.
