SAS has completed the installation of Starlink across its entire fleet of 81 Airbus A320neo aircraft, six months after launching the onboard connectivity service in March.
The completion means high-speed WiFi from Starlink is now available on a significant share of SAS’ European flights. Through the airline’s partnership with 3, EuroBonus members can access the service free of charge for activities including work, streaming, messaging and internet browsing throughout their journey.
When SAS introduced Starlink in March, the airline said its objective was to extend high-speed connectivity to as many customers as possible within a short timeframe.
Paul Verhagen, Executive Vice President and Chief Commercial Officer at SAS, said: “Today, the installation across our entire A320neo fleet is complete, in record time. Bringing high-speed connectivity to these aircraft means many of our customers can enjoy a better-connected journey.”
“Being connected has become a natural part of everyday life, and that doesn’t change when we board a plane. With gate-to-gate connectivity, our customers have more freedom to choose how they spend their time travelling with us,” he added.
The installations were carried out alongside SAS’ normal flight operations, with each aircraft undergoing installation, testing and approval before returning to service.
The A320neo fleet accounts for around 70% of SAS’ total fleet and forms the backbone of its European network, operating a large proportion of flights across Scandinavia and Europe. The completion of the programme makes the A320neo the first aircraft type in the SAS fleet to be fully equipped with Starlink.
SAS is now proceeding with the next phase of the rollout, with preparations under way for installation on the remaining aircraft types. Further installations are planned before the end of 2026.
The completion of the A320neo rollout comes during SAS’ 80th anniversary year. The airline has connected Scandinavia with international markets for eight decades, while introducing new routes and onboard technologies during that period.
Starlink uses a network of low-Earth-orbit satellites to provide high-speed, low-latency connectivity in the air.
