The Malta Tourism Authority (MTA) has joined the World Travel & Tourism Council (WTTC) as a Destination Partner, ahead of the WTTC Global Summit 2026, which will take place in Valletta from October 7 to 9.
The partnership strengthens cooperation between WTTC and Malta as the country prepares to host the organisation’s annual global summit, which will bring together tourism industry CEOs, ministers, investors and other sector leaders.
The Malta Tourism Authority is responsible for promoting Malta as a tourism destination and works with government, tourism businesses, local communities and international stakeholders. Its activities include destination promotion, regulation, industry collaboration, workforce development and initiatives related to tourism quality and sustainability.
The authority also works with local and international media and supports measures intended to maintain standards across Malta’s tourism sector while protecting the country’s cultural heritage.
Jo Etienne Abela, Minister for Tourism, said: “Malta’s partnership with the World Travel & Tourism Council comes at an important moment for our tourism sector and for our country as we prepare to welcome the world to Valletta for the 2026 Global Summit. This Destination Partnership strengthens Malta’s engagement with leading voices in the global tourism industry and provides an important platform to share our experience, while also learning from international partners and identifying new opportunities for sustainable growth. We want Malta to remain a destination that offers quality, authenticity and memorable experiences, while ensuring that tourism continues to create value for our economy, our communities and future generations. Hosting the WTTC Global Summit is a recognition of Malta’s growing role on the international tourism stage, and we look forward to using this opportunity to showcase the very best of the Maltese Islands and our vision for the future of tourism.”
The WTTC Global Summit in Valletta will focus on issues affecting the future of travel and tourism and is expected to provide a platform for discussions between public- and private-sector representatives. The event will also place Malta’s tourism sector, cultural heritage and destination development policies in the international tourism spotlight during the three-day programme.
Gloria Guevara, WTTC President & CEO, said: “We are delighted to welcome the Malta Tourism Authority as a Destination Partner at a particularly exciting time for the destination. As Malta prepares to host WTTC’s Global Summit in Valletta, it will have the opportunity to showcase its unique heritage, hospitality, and vision for sustainable growth to industry leaders from around the world. We look forward to working together to highlight Malta’s position as one of Europe’s most compelling tourism destinations.”
