Tokyo, Paris and Athens lead U.S. travel demand for July 4 holidays

U.S. international travel demand for the July 4 holiday period is increasingly focused on destinations in Europe, Asia and the Caribbean, according to an analysis by Data Appeal Mabrian. The findings are based on the company’s Share of Searches Index, measuring U.S. travel intent for trips abroad between July 2 and July 6, 2026, using search data collected from April 1 to June 18, 2026.

Among international destinations, Tokyo recorded the strongest year-on-year increase in travel intent, rising by 1.24 percentage points compared with the same holiday period in 2025. Paris followed with an increase of 0.57 percentage points, while Athens ranked third with a gain of 0.55 percentage points.

Other destinations showing positive growth included Milan (+0.37 percentage points) and Rome (+0.35) in Italy, Barcelona (+0.30) and Madrid (+0.18) in Spain, Lisbon (+0.21) in Portugal and Seoul (+0.20) in South Korea.

In the Caribbean, San Juan, Puerto Rico, recorded a year-on-year increase of 0.49 percentage points in U.S. travel intent, while Punta Cana, Dominican Republic, registered growth of 0.14 percentage points during the July 4 holiday period.

Meanwhile, Bali, destinations in Vietnam and London also recorded increases in travel demand from the U.S. market, although at a more moderate pace.

“The July 4 holiday period highlights the continued strength of Europe and Asia among U.S. international travelers, with destinations such as Tokyo, Paris, Athens, and several Southern European cities gaining momentum year over year. At the same time, destinations across Canada and Mexico remain essential pillars of U.S. outbound travel demand. While some destinations in both markets are experiencing moderate declines in travel intent, they continue to rank among the top international choices for American travelers, underscoring the enduring appeal of proximity, connectivity, and established travel patterns.”

The analysis identifies Europe, Asia and the Caribbean as the fastest-growing regions for outbound U.S. travel demand during the July 4 holiday period, with Tokyo, Paris, Athens, Milan, Rome and Barcelona ranking among the destinations attracting the highest growth in international travel intent.
