Penang Strengthens Its Position as a Leading Business Events Hub, Driven by High-Value Sectors and a Strong 2026 Pipeline

Frankfurt, Germany — Penang continues to strengthen its position as one of Malaysia’s most compelling business events destinations, driven by strong performance across high-value industries including medical and healthcare, advanced manufacturing, electronics, digital innovation and association meetings.

With a well-established ecosystem, strong connectivity and growing international appeal, Penang is increasingly recognised as a destination where business events create meaningful economic and industry value.

In 2025, Penang delivered its strongest business events performance to date, hosting 3,391 business events, a 64.7% increase from 2,059 in 2024. Delegate numbers rose to 451,198, while total room nights reached 824,505, reflecting growth of 47.8% and 47.6% respectively. Collectively, these activities generated an estimated RM1.91 billion in Economic Event Impact for the state.

More importantly, this impact reaches far beyond the events themselves, supporting hotels, SMEs, venue operators, transport providers, technical suppliers and the wider service ecosystem. This strong performance is supported by Penang’s continued development as a business events-ready destination. Improved accessibility, expanded accommodation capacity and a deepening portfolio of industry-relevant sectors have strengthened the state’s ability to attract high-value meetings, conventions, incentives and exhibitions.

Penang’s business events landscape is also increasingly aligned with strategic growth areas such as advanced manufacturing, medical science, technology and innovation, reinforcing the state’s role as a platform for knowledge exchange and business growth. Looking ahead to 2026, the Penang Convention & Exhibition Bureau (PCEB) has launched “Penang Inspiring Meetings”, a campaign that further positions Penang as a leading destination for business events in line with the national Visit Malaysia 2026 initiative.

The campaign reflects Penang’s ambition to welcome more business visitors, conference delegates and incentive groups, while showcasing the state’s unique strength across both the island and mainland.

This year also marks a major milestone for PCEB as it celebrates its 10th anniversary. Since its establishment   in 2016, PCEB has played a central role in positioning Penang as a preferred business events destination in the region. As it enters this new chapter,

PCEB remains focused on strengthening Penang’s global profile, deepening industry partnerships and building a sustainable future for the sector. A key part of that future is BE Associate, a new talent development initiative designed to build a continuous pipeline of work-ready talent for the business events industry.

The programme will run monthly seminars for up to 50 students per session, supported by ongoing industry engagements, hands-on exposure and volunteer opportunities at live events. Through direct access to industry professionals and practical learning modules, BE Associate aims to bridge the gap between academic learning and real-world industry expectations. Penang’s 2026 calendar will also be anchored by two major industry platforms. Penang International Travel Exchange (PITE) 2026, taking place from 27 to 29 October 2026, is Malaysia’s only homegrown business events and travel trade platform. Designed as a comprehensive marketplace, PITE brings together international and regional buyers with Malaysian sellers through structured business-to-business (B2B) sessions, enabling direct engagement, deal-making and collaboration opportunities.

In 2026, the platform will be further expanded into a more international-facing showcase, welcoming exhibitors beyond Malaysia and encouraging participation from bureaus, Professional Conference Organisers (PCOs) and Professional Exhibition Organisers (PEOs) worldwide.

Complementing this is BE @ Penang 2026, themed “BE The Multiverse,” taking place from 10 to 11 December 2026 at the Setia SPICE Convention Centre. Recognised as Malaysia’s premier business events conference, BE @ Penang serves as a high-level platform for industry dialogue, thought leadership and strategic exchange.

Now in its 10th edition, the conference explores a convergence point where industries, technologies and ideas intersect. This milestone reflects a new reality for business events: no longer confined to a single dimension, but part of a vast ecosystem shaped by MNCs, technology innovators and sustainability leaders.

More than a conference, BE @ Penang is a space for meaningful conversations, cross-sector collaboration and forward-thinking ideas that shape the future of the industry. Through strong sectoral foundations, strategic campaigns and future-focused initiatives, Penang is entering 2026 with clear momentum. PCEB will continue to position the state as a destination where business events drive economic growth, strengthen industry capability and create lasting impact for Penang and Malaysia.
