Ixigo launches travel app with conversational booking and agentic AI

India-based online travel agency Ixigo has launched a rebuilt mobile app that uses AI to help travelers plan trips and automate tasks before and during travel.

Announced Wednesday at the company’s Ixigo NEXT event, the updated app includes a rebuilt version of TARA, Ixigo’s AI assistant, along with new features designed to help travelers streamline the travel experience.

The company said users can interact with TARA through voice, text or tap in English, Hindi and Hinglish. The assistant is designed to handle natural language travel requests, including hotel searches and itinerary planning.

According to Ixigo, it can also surface recommendations based on a traveler’s history, preferences and booking behavior.

The app adds a “Trip Mode” feature that consolidates boarding passes, gate and terminal details, baggage claim information and travel alerts into a single view.

Ixigo said the feature can provide airport departure suggestions based on live traffic conditions and surface travel recommendations during trips.

The company is also introducing “Agentic Travel Flows,” which use AI agents to automate travel-related tasks in the background.

These include sending boarding passes through WhatsApp, automatically updating boarding passes stored in Apple Wallet and Google Wallet if flight details change and monitoring flight schedules for delays or cancellations. Its AI agents can also coordinate with hotels ahead of check-in to verify room readiness, Ixigo said.

Many of the agentic features are permission-based and opt-in.

“Over the last two decades, Ixigo has focused on building products that reduce anxiety and bring peace of mind to travelers," said Rajnish Kumar, group co-CEO and Aloke Bajpai, group CEO of Ixigo. "With the new AI-native version of our app, we are reimagining travel as a conversational, intuitive and deeply personalized experience powered by AI."

The executives said the company believes “the future of travel will be agent-led, with AI that can understand intent, take proactive actions and assist travelers seamlessly before, during and after their trips.”

The launch builds on Ixigo’s broader AI push. Last month, the company launched ChatGPT apps across Ixigo, AbhiBus and ConfirmTkt and said earlier this year it was working with OpenAI on autonomous agents and AI-assisted workflows.
